Students will be allowed time to learn and practice their English through listening, speaking, reading and writing. They will also be taught Composition & Situational Writing, Comprehension & Summary and Oral Skills. All these skills are essential and are taught so as to prepare all our students for the O level.

Lessons will alternate between composition writing, situational writing and comprehension (with summary). Lessons on oral skills will be taught nearer the date of the students’ examination. All written work will be marked, graded and feedback will be given on how to help the student do better

Composition & Situational Writing:

Besides narrative and descriptive writing, students will be taught how to write expository and argumentative essays. They will learn structure, vocabulary and ways to improve their content. In addition to what they have learnt in Lower Secondary, they will be taught speech and article writing. They will be shown how to write demonstrating the appropriate tone and voice in their situational writing.

Comprehension & Summary:

Students will be introduced to more lengthy texts and challenging questions. They will learn how to answer different types of questions, in particular questions that require students to infer or write in their own words. They will also be given the chance to hone their summary skills as well as improve in their time management skills.

Oral Skills:

The components of the Oral examination for the Lower and Upper Secondary levels are the same. However, the type of questions and the type of answers expected from different levels are different.

Students will be taught how to read a given text with diction and expression. They will also be shown the techniques of how to describe and interpret a given picture or photograph. Students will also learn how to engage in a conversation confidently, coherently and fluently. The importance of this component cannot be under emphasised as this component now carries a higher percentage of the overall English score.
