This is a preparatory course for students taking the PSLE this year or the year after next. All Primary 5 and 6 students will be taught the components in their English examination and hone their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Lessons will alternate between Paper 1 (Composition & Situational writing) and Paper 2 (the other components like Comprehension, Cloze Passage, Vocabulary and Grammar). Lessons on oral skills will be taught nearer the date of the students’ examination. All written work will be marked, graded and feedback will be given on how to help the student do better
Paper 1:
Students will be the techniques on how to write a good essay. They will be taught how to improve their content, vocabulary and expression independent of whether it is a picture composition or an essay question on a given topic. In addition, students will be shown how to write a simple but coherent short essay for their situational writing.
Paper 2:
Grammar and Comprehension skills will also be taught. Students will also be advised on the different ways of completing each section of the paper while avoiding the common errors often made by students in order to do well.
Oral Skills:
All three components in the Oral examination will be taught. 6 lessons in the year will be set apart for Oral practice. Students will learn how to read a given text with diction and expression. They will also be shown the techniques of how to describe and interpret a given picture. They will also be taught how to engage in a conversation confidently, coherently and fluently.
